The Fallout Boy Tribute

The Story: Created as a birthday gift for my brother—a dedicated fan of the video game—this piece was an exploration of translating iconic digital imagery into the tactile world of embroidery. It represents the intersection of pop culture and traditional craftsmanship, turning a well-known symbol into a hand-stitched heirloom.

The Process: This was a journey of patience and precision, totaling approximately 40 hours of needlework. The design was hand-drawn directly onto the fabric to ensure the proportions of the “Vault Boy” remained faithful to the original aesthetic while allowing for the unique texture of the thread.

Technical Details:

  • Ground: Calico supported by a heavy-duty stabilizer to maintain the structural integrity of the dense stitching.
  • Thread: DMC stranded cotton.
  • Stitch Mastery:
    • The Background: Executed in a meticulous Brick Stitch to create a solid, architectural field of yellow.
    • The Iconography: The black cog outline was defined using a crisp Satin Stitch for sharp, graphic edges.
    • The Figure: Long and Short Stitch was used throughout the rest of the piece to create smooth color transitions and a “painted” effect with the thread.
